Our Story

How we got here

The short version lives on the home page. Here's the rest of it โ€” plus the photos to prove it.

The Beginning

A Hinge match, and then some.

What started as a Hinge match turned into a shared love of outdoor adventures, music, and staying active together. Plus just enough differences to keep things interesting. And we think thatโ€™s the making of a pretty good bond.

Despite Maggie being 15 minutes late, and the restaurant being pitch black and as loud as a concert, we left our first date feeling excited to see what this new person would bring into our lives. (Maggie had already texted a screenshot of Kirk's profile to her friend Emily for ~safety~ and of course, because Minneapolis is a giant small town, it turned out Emily's boyfriend Grady knew Kirk and enthusiastically approved.)

Date number two was much better albeit unconventional: a Christmas-themed restaurant in matching ugly Christmas sweaters (what?!). Maggie pulled into the empty parking lot of Betty Dangers and found Kirk standing by his car holding a gigantic llama sweater. We talked about everything and nothing. Maggie was impressed by the many lives Kirk had lived and his adventurous spirit; Kirk was enchanted by Maggie's ability to pull off a llama sweater, and her kindness. We took a spin on the ferris wheel (now for sale in Minneapolis if anyone is in the market) and the rest is history.

A few months later, we set off on our first of many camper van trips. It was absolutely otherworldly โ€” we traveled well together and handled every obstacle like a team, including the van breaking down in the middle of the desert (multiple times) and missing our flight home.

Things continued to click easily from there: the same taste in music, creativity, same love of getting outside, and the kind of active lifestyle where "let's do something this weekend" was never a hard sell.

The Proposal

Then, the question.

On April 1st, 2026, Kirk got down on one knee on Pacific beach in San Diego. (Yes, April Foolsโ€™ Day, but no, it wasnโ€™t a joke.)

We were on vacation with Maggieโ€™s family and it was the last night we were all together. Kirk asked Maggie to head down to a beach that held a lot of good memories for him, just to catch the sunset. Maggie, wanting to spend as much time with her family as possible, almost said no. Thankfully, her sister and mom encouraged her to go. And they went off, no idea what she was walking into.

What Maggie didnโ€™t know was that Kirk had already looped in her entire family. Her sister Kate and brother-in-law Nate were stationed up on a bluff, cameras ready, capturing the whole thing from a distance.

Amid a lot of crying, jumping, and cheering, Maggie said yes.

We came back to the rental house and asked everyone if they had known the plan and they all yelled “YES!” in unison.
